Often, we get comfortable with where we are. We get comfortable in our jobs. We get comfortable in our relationships. And, some even get comfortable in their own misery.
It’s time to shake things up in your life.
I believe that God sends us earthquakes in our lives because he needs to shake some things up and out of our lives.
There are three things that tend to happen as a result of earthquakes in our lives.
- A breaking free from the things that have been holding you back. When I think about this, I think about the story in the Bible where Paul and Silas were in jail, and they prayed and sang praises until an earthquake happened and the prison doors were shaken – freeing everyone inside.
What do you need to be freed from? Limited thinking? False beliefs? Unhealthy relationships? A life of lack?
Earthquakes don’t just come into your life to destroy. Earthquakes come into your life to set you free – if you let it. Don’t get so busy running and hiding from the earthquake that you don’t even realize that the mental, emotional, and spiritual prisons you’ve been dealing with have been broken.
- To Reposition You – Earthquakes also can be used to reposition you. I’ve been talking a lot about finding your purpose and creating a plan. And I always get asked the question – what if I make a wrong decision or I choose the wrong path? And the answer is – trust God to put you back on the right path. Trust God to reposition you. This is why he allows the earthquakes to happen. Remember, earthquakes are the results of two plates moving and sometimes colliding.
When you’re experiencing a lot of things moving in your life – changing jobs, changing houses, changing relationship status – that could be God repositioning you back to where you need to be. If you’re in a season where so many things seem to be influx – people coming in and out of your life, multiple opportunities are being presented to you, or physically, you’re moving around more than normal – all of these could be signs that God is shaking things up and repositioning you back on the path where you are supposed to be or he is preparing to elevate you.
During this time, you are going to experience some uncertainty and maybe even fear. That’s ok. It’s normal. But don’t let these feelings rule over you and become the basis of your decision making process. Just like in the real hurricane, hold on to what you know to be true, not to what you feel.
- To rebuild you or your life – Yes, it’s true. Sometimes when an earthquake happens in your life, it comes to not only shake things up, but to break and tear down. But what usually happens in life when an earthquake strikes and destroys buildings? The buildings are rebuilt bigger and stronger than it was before. If you’re a business owner or if you are in the oil and gas industry, you know all too well how you can go through cycles of tearing down and building up. The oil and gas industry is in a state of being torn down – which has caused people to lose their jobs and relocate to different parts of the US.
When you are experiencing an earthquake in life or in business that has torn down the very things you were used to, you have a choice to make. You can stand there and mourn the loss. Or you can rebuild yourself, your business, or your relationships stronger than what it was before. The choice is yours. But remember, it is not God’s plans or intentions for you to be completely destroyed. But he allows you to be tested so that you can be refined. So he can strengthen you. And the only way to do that is to tear down that which is old, worn out, weak, and of no use – and replace it with stronger, better, faster so you can walk boldly into your future.
